ROLLER SPEED ADDED TO THE BUENOS AIRES 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME!

THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE (IOC) EXECUTIVE BOARD AGREED TO ADD ROLLER SPORTS TO THE YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES (YOG) BUENOS AIRES 2018 SPORTS PROGRAMME, MEANING THERE WILL BE A TOTAL OF 32 SPORTS AT THE NEXT SUMMER YOG.

The inclusion of roller sports will be in the form the roller speed discipline, with events in 500m, 1000m and 5000m races. There will be a total of 24 competing athletes, comprising 12 women and 12 men – maintaining the total gender equality that is set to happen at Buenos Aires 2018, a first for any Olympic event. Estimados Amigos,

 

Quisiera agradecer a todos aquellos que pudieron asistir al Congreso FIRS 2017 en Nanjing y también a los que no estuvieron presentes por la confianza que una vez mas han depositado en mí al reconfirmar mi mandato como Presidente de FIRS.

Es realmente un honor para mí servir a nuestro deporte y estoy completamente a vuestra disposición para hacer nuestro deporte cada vez mejor.

 

Este querría ser sólo un mensaje de agradecimiento, pero acabo de recibir algunas noticias realmente buenas que necesito compartir, algo que estoy seguro que hará que vosotros y todo el mundo de nuestro Movimiento Roller se sientan orgullosos.

Acabo de recibir la notificación oficial por parte del COI, como podéis ver en la nota anexada, que un segundo deporte de los Roller Sports ha recibido el reconocimiento olímpico: el Patinaje de Velocidad será incluido en los Juegos Olímpicos del 2018 en Buenos Aires, Argentina! No sólo como un deporte demostrativo, sino que de hecho se otorgarán medallas olímpicas a nuestros campeones!

Todos aquellos presentes en Nanjing saben que yo estaba trabajando en esto y que con cauteloso optimismo ya les estaba anunciando de antemano que este logro estaba definitivamente a nuestro alcance.

 

Durante los últimos años hemos estado trabajando muy duro con el COI, demostrando que nuestra Federación Internacional es seria y bien organizada y que nuestros deportes son dignos de reconocimiento olímpico y que seguramente pueden satisfacer los deseos de muchos jóvenes alrededor del mundo. Y el COI ha entendido esto, tanto que el Patinaje de Velocidad y el Skateboarding fueron incluidos en los Juegos Olímpicos de la Juventud 2014 en Nanjing (China) como deportes demostrativos en el SportsLab, el Skateboarding ha sido incluido en los Juegos Olímpicos del 2020 en Tokio (Japón) y ahora el Patinaje de Velocidad está en los YOG de 2018! Estos son una serie de resultados que me llenan de emoción al compartirlos con todos vosotros y que me dan la certeza de que vendrán muchos mas.

 

Me gustaría agradecer una vez más por el trabajo que estáis llevando a cabo en vuestros países y por la invaluable ayuda que siempre habéis brindado a FIRS. Estoy seguro de que la FIRS podrá contar con vuestra cooperación también en el futuro.

Como ya os dije en el congreso, la FIRS puede ser una gran Federación Internacional en el momento que sus propias Federaciones Nacionales sean igualmente grandes. De nuevo gracias por todo aquello que estáis haciendo.

Dear Friends,

 

I would like to thank those of you that were able to attend the 2017 FIRS Congress in Nanjing and also those that weren’t present for the trust you have once again placed in me by reconfirming my mandate as FIRS President.

It is indeed an honour for me serving our Sport and I am at your total disposal to make our sport even greater.

 

This wanted to be just a thank you message, but I have just received some really great news that I need to share, something that I am sure will make you and all our Roller Movement really proud.

We have just been officially notified by the IOC, as you can see by the letter in attachment, that a second Roller Sport has received Olympic recognition: Roller Speed Skating will be included in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina! Not just as a demonstrative sport, in fact Olympic medals will be awarded to our Champions!

Those of you present in Nanjing know that I was working on this and that with cautious optimism I was already telling you in advance that this achievement was definitely within our reach.

 

During these past few years we have been working really hard with the IOC, demonstrating that our International Federation is serious and well organized and that our sports are worthy of Olympic recognition and can surely meet the wishes of many youngsters all around the globe. And the IOC has understood this, so much so that Speed Skating and Skateboarding were included in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing (China) as demonstrative sports in the SportsLab, Skateboarding has been included in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo (Japan) and now Speed Skating is in the 2018 YOG! These are a series of result that I am so excited to share with all of you and that I am confident will be followed by many others.

 

I would like to once again thank you for the work you are carrying out in your countries and for the invaluable assistance you are always providing to the FIRS. I am sure the FIRS will be able to count on your cooperation also in the future.

As I have already told you at Congress, the FIRS can be a great International Federations when its National Federations are equally as great. Thank you once again for everything you are doing.
